Rafay Syed, MS

Rafay joined the GOPC in July of 2017. He received his Master of Science degree in Biotechnology with a concentration in health science from Johns Hopkins University.  He received his undergraduate degree in biology from the University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). Rafay is passionate about nutrition and preventive medicine, and has an extensive background in biomedical research. 

At the GOPC, Rafay worked with the Systems Science Core to develop and run complex models that address the prevention and control of obesity. Rafay’s work implemented a systems approach to evaluate the behavioral, physiological, environmental and economic factors that contribute to obesity. His work helped influence obesity prevention policies and interventions.
