Global Obesity Prevention Center

Request for Funding Applications (RFA)

Round 6 (Released on July 10, 2014)

The Global Obesity Prevention Center (GOPC) at Johns Hopkins is seeking applications for research focused on time-sensitive changes in environments or policies that may reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity. Projects should take a systems perspective and have the potential to inform the development or confirmation of community- or population-based interventions. We invite applications from investigators at all career levels in the United States and around the world. Learn more about our previously awarded projects.

This RFA is for research requiring short-cycle funding decisions (rapid response studies).

Awards will be announced approximately three months from the RFA release date. Eligible studies must be associated with actual policies or processes that are pending in real world settings (also known as natural experiments), requiring time-sensitive data collection that would be impossible if the funding decision were made on the regular nine-month review cycle of the National Institutes of Health. Our RFAs are re-issued every six months, in January and July.

For this round, we will fund between one and three projects for a maximum of $30,000 total costs per project.

A one-page concept summary of the proposed research is due on August 4, 2014. After reviewing the submitted research concepts, selected applicants will be invited to submit a full proposal (five page limit). For those applicants, full proposals will be due on September 12, 2014. The final awardee will be notified by October 17, 2014. Further details can be found in the full RFA announcement found here.

An optional Informational Teleconference will be held on July 25, 2014 at 3:30 p.m. EDT. Prospective applicants can click here and register to receive information about how to access the teleconference.
